DATA SOURCES

Every number, cited.

The Bottleneck Calculator is only as good as its inputs. Here's exactly where each one comes from.

CPU benchmarks

  • PASSMARKSingle- and multi-thread CPU performance scores from cpubenchmark.net. Used as the headline benchmark in our CPU index.
  • MANUFACTURERCores, threads, base/boost clocks, L3 cache, TDP, socket, memory channels — all from official AMD and Intel datasheets.

GPU benchmarks

Per-game FPS

  • TECHPOWERUPPer-game FPS measurements at 1080p / 1440p / 4K across various presets, sourced from TechPowerUp game-review benchmarks.
  • HAND-CURATEDTop-50 most-searched parts are manually verified against multiple review sources before being marked as data-quality 5 (human-verified).

Data quality scoring

Every part in our database carries a 1–5 data-quality score that reflects how thoroughly its specs have been verified:

  • 5Hand-verified against manufacturer datasheets and at least two independent reviews.
  • 4All major fields parsed cleanly from a primary source (TPU/PassMark).
  • 3Most fields present; one or two minor specs estimated.
  • 2Several fields missing; estimates used for headline metrics.
  • 1Sparse data — useful for rough comparisons only.

The user-facing confidence score on every calculator result is derived from the average data-quality of the inputs.

We extract numerical performance scores and recompute our own indices, which is transformative derivative use.
